September Empties

Sooooo…I’m more than a month late. And I hope you don’t mind. It just so happens that I take a looong time to finish products and in Sept and probably this month too (Oct) I’ve been having way more empties than usual. I guess I have spike waves of when I start to finish up some products! Just FYI, just because I finish up a product doesn’t mean I’m in love with them. Usually that is the case, but not so much this month I guess. Lets start with the products I feel whatevers about:

MEH:

Playa Dry Shampoo ($22)*

  • This dry shampoo works, but honestly I don’t think it’s worth the money. It comes in an aerosol can (like most dry shampoos) and even though it does degunk my oily hair temporarily, I feel like the more affordable Baptiste ($5 consistently @ TJMaxx) one does a better job for less. Also, this Playa dry shampoo runs out super fast.

Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen ($19)

  • A chemical sunscreen that is pretty moisturizing and affordable out of the many sunscreens at Sephora. But I have oily-combo skin so it did feel quite heavy on my skin, although leaving a nice glow. Just not my favorite, and not something I’d reach for often. I’m surprised I actually got through this thanks to my trip to Puerto Vallarta.

The Good Chemist Radiance Repair ($65 for full size. This one is a sample but lasted me awhile)

  • I don’t have any strong opinions about this one. It’s a vitamin C serum in gel format, and I appreciate that it was lightweight and not tingly, but honestly since acne scarring is a huge problem for me, I need a serum containing the gold standard L-ascorbic acid, and this one just doesn’t.

NAY:

dpHUE ACV Scalp Scrub ($38)

  • I’ve already written an in-depth review on this one here. But in short, didn’t work for me, and couldn’t get it to stick to my scalp instead of hair strands.

Son & Park Beauty Water ($30 full size)

  • Remember this was ALL the hype? Especially on Sokoglam? This is scented WATER. Doesn’t do anything for my skin (and I ain’t even dry!). So many other products that’ll do way more for less money. Case closed. Very disappointing. Maybe I shouldn’t even have bothered with finishing this up.

Urban Decay Primer Potion Anti-Aging ($24)

  • Ugh, I’m disgusting. I think I’ve been using this for two years and thank goodness I finally finished this. I couldn’t justify buying another one for the longest time and I’ve had to fiddle with different ways to make my eyeshadow last all day without creasing. This by itself doesn’t prevent my ultra-oily eyelid oils from seeping through the eyeshadow. Not worth the hype. May I recommend the Makeup Forever Lip & Eye Primer instead for a dollar less.

YAY:

Sunday Riley CEO Rapid Flash Brightening Serum ($85)*

  • There are many, many textures of Vitamin C Serums out there, but this one is my favorite for daytime paired with sunscreen. Hmm, this is what I mean. Drunk Elephant’s C-firma is too oily for my during the day. And Cosrx’s lightening liquid is too sticky, and I don’t want that under makeup or even alone while I go about my day. But this one is the happy medium of hydrating and gentle, with no off-putting residue. This in combination with suscreen and other brightening products has slowly but surely made a difference in fading my acne scars. This is expensive and I won this from a giveaway, but I still would consider buying this during a sale.

Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream (~$25)

  • Already did an in-depth review here. Love this eye cream, and I have no complaints about it. A mom/friend/coworker who has very dry skin told me that it wasn’t nourishing enough for her though. So if you’re the same way, perhaps reconsider. Otherwise, I highly recommend this eye cream.

Playa Every Day Shampoo* ($28)

  • This is the second bottle I’ve finished of this. Playa is a clean haircare brand and at the end of the day I enjoyed this one a lot. In depth review here again. But since it’s pretty expensive, I really don’t think I’ll be able to pull the trigger to buy this full price.

PCA Skin Everyday Weightless Broad Spectrum 45 ($44 Full size)

  • Physical Sunscreen that leaves no white cast of heavy feeling on the skin. I was pleasantly surprised with this find! It’s gentle, non-drying, and fragrance free. I’ve heard of PCA Skin, but this is the first thing I’ve ever tried from them ever.

*Gifted by the brand

At the end of the day, please take everything with a grain of salt! What may work for me may not for you (and vice versa).
